Jewellery care
Our jewelry is handmade and we use various precious and semi-precious stones as well as sterling silver and gold plated sterling silver. You should take care of your jewelry to ensure that it always looks new.
Below we describe how to clean your Carolin Stone jewelry - silver and gold-plated silver.
Silver - how to clean
Silver oxidizes over time, so it is very important to take good care of this metal. However, since silver is a soft metal, it can scratch easily and these scratches cannot be removed. Therefore, sterling silver should always be cleaned with a soft cloth, mild soap (alcohol-free, pH-neutral) and warm water. When cleaning silver, it is best to use silver care products or solutions that are specifically designed for silver jewelry. Care should also be taken not to touch the gemstones while cleaning to avoid scratching the gemstones.
You should also remove jewelry before participating in any activity such as sports, cleaning, etc. Remember any activity that involves using cosmetic products or water.
It is also advisable to remove the jewelry before entering the water or going to bed. Make sure you wear the jewelry carefully and avoid letting your jewelry come into contact with chemicals such as perfumes, body lotions, cosmetics with alcohol and sweat.
Gold plated silver - how to clean
Gold plated jewelry is extremely delicate. To maintain the shine of this jewelry, it should be cleaned with a soft polishing cloth. However, clean your jewelry very carefully as the gold plating can wear off. Stay away from polishing liquids or strong chemicals while cleaning. Silver is a soft metal and can get scratches easily. Therefore, while cleaning the gold plated silver with the cloth, be careful not to clean too hard as the scratches of the gold plated silver can never be removed. Also, the gold plating can lose its color if you clean the surface too hard. Moreover, you should not touch the gemstones while cleaning to avoid scratches.
NOTE: We cannot guarantee that the gold plated jewelry will last forever. Keep in mind that the gold color will fade over time and the jewelry will lose its shine. Although this jewelry will not tarnish, you will still see that the gold color may become dull due to the reaction between the metals in the gold alloy and the air. To prolong the life of this jewelry, we recommend that you remove the jewelry before participating in activities such as sports, cleaning, etc. It is also advisable to remove the jewelry before entering the water or going to bed. Make sure you wear the jewelry carefully and avoid contact of your jewelry with chemicals such as perfumes, body lotions, cosmetics with alcohol and sweat.
In addition, the pH level of your natural skin also plays a role in determining the duration of the gold plating. Therefore, it is highly advisable to take special care of your gold-plated jewelry.
Storing your jewelry
To protect your jewelry, we recommend that you secure your jewelry in a jewelry box or in a tarnish-proof bag. Store your jewelry in dark places where the temperature reaches the normal degree of your apartment/house. However, never store your silver jewelry in polyvinyl bags as this will cause the silver to oxidize faster.
NOTE: Our Carolin Stones boxes are not suitable for long term storage. They are not airtight, so make sure you store the jewelry in another bag to protect it from tarnishing.
