Silver – how to clean

Silver oxidizes with time; therefore, it is very important to take a good care of this metal. However, as Silver is a soft metal, it can get easily scratched, and these scratches cannot be removed. Therefore, Sterling Silver should always be cleaned with a soft cloth, mild soap (nonalcoholic, pH neutral) and warm water. While cleaning silver, it is best to use silver polishes or solutions designed specifically for the silver jewelry. With this, one should also make sure to not touch the gemstones while cleaning to prevent the gemstones from scratches.

Moreover, one should remove the jewelry before taking part in any activity, like - sports, cleaning, etc. Keep in mind any activity that has something to do with cosmetic products or with water.

It is also advisable to remove the jewelry before going in water or to bed. Make sure to wear the jewelry carefully and avoid the contact of your jewelry with chemicals like perfumes, body lotions, cosmetics with alcohol, and sweat.

Gold-plated silver – how to clean

Gold plated jewelry is extremely sensitive. To maintain the shine of this jewelry it should be cleaned with a soft polishing cloth. However, make sure to clean your jewelry pieces very carefully, as the gold-plating can wear off. While cleaning, keep away from polishing liquids or strong chemicals. Silver is a soft metal and can get scratches easily. Therefore, while cleaning the gold-plated silver with the cloth just make sure to not clean too hard as the scratches on the gold-plated silver can never be removed. In addition, the gold-plating can lose its color when you clean too hard the surface. Furthermore, one should also make sure to not touch the gemstones while cleaning to prevent the gemstones from scratches.

NOTE: We do not guarantee that the gold-plated jewelry will last forever. It should be considered that the gold color will wear off with time and that the jewelry will lose its shine. Although this jewelry will not tarnish, you still will see the golden color getting dull due to the reaction between the metals in the gold alloy and air. To prolong the life of this jewelry, we recommend removing the jewelry before taking part in any activity, like - sports, cleaning etc. It is also advisable to remove the jewelry before going in water or to bed. Make sure to wear the jewelry carefully and avoid the contact of your jewelry with chemicals like perfumes, body lotions, cosmetics with alcohol, and sweat.

Moreover, your natural skin PH level also has a role in determining how long the gold plating will last. Therefore, it is extremely vital to take special care of your gold-plated jewelry.

Storage of your jewelry

In order to protect your jewelry, we advise you to secure your jewelry in a jewelry box, or in a tarnish-resistant pouch. Store your jewelry in dark places where the temperature reaches the normal degree of your apartment/ house. However, make sure to never store your silver jewelry in bags made out of polyvinyl, as it will enhance the silver to oxidize faster.

NOTE: Our Carolin Stones boxes are not made for long-term storage. They are not airtight; therefore, make sure to shift the jewelry in some other bag to protect the jewelry from tarnish.
